Time spent traveling is well spent – these paintings were created from my time backpacking around Italy with just a rucksack, sketchpad and a small Cannon Ixus S200. On a limited budget and in many ways you can only do so much with your time but these are some of my favorite artworks. Now also available in “Easy Print” digital downloads – see here.

With no set plan other than to use the rail lines to travel from South to North and then back again I was lucky enough to pick and choose my many locations. My journey started in Calabria with a few friends – we traveled out to Stromboli and some of the islands off the cost of Naples; although we had to travel to Regio Calabria to get a small hydrofoil boat to take us there. We stayed on Stromboli and Vulcano (2 very active volcanic islands) for 4 nights before I set off back to Calabria with one other person.
After staying one night in Vibo Valencia I got back on a train this time by myself to travel up to Florence where I had to work as a graphic designer for a month. My time in Florence was just amazing and I met many people and saw many amazing places, many of which I have painted.
After my work assignment was finished in Florence I traveled much of the north of Italy before returning south to Calabria again where I met more friends and started another short term design job to build some websites. I hope to tell the whole story of my times in Italy as soon as I get a moment in my ultra busy life but for now I hope you like the paintings I have made from those travels. More soon 🙂
