Oil painting version of a Van Gogh much loved classic! – as a younger artist I loved to re-paint awesome work by some of my favorite artists. I cant go into too much detail of the process I used – as I think back I remember it was just lots of fun getting thick layers of oil paint down.

This painting presented a big challenge to me just because Van Gogh’s style of painting is so distinctive, so I can easily say I didn’t reach the skill level of Van Gogh but these paintings were done many years ago when I was working from a book and had never seen a Van Gogh in real life!
Since I have seen them hanging in Paris and London I have learned a heck lot more about his method. If I was painting it again I would paint it a lot looser with areas of the canvas brown and gnarly poking out from behind the colours; my main criticism of my technique here is that it was possibly too polished and finished whereas Van Gogh worked a lot quicker.

I started this painting from the sky and worked forwards, although it was many years ago I painted it I would love to try it again.

I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process.
