Oil painting version of a Van Gogh much loved classic! – as a younger artist I loved to re-paint awesome work by some of my favorite artists (as if its easy to do!). To say I was a big fan of Van G would be an understatement at the least; if I had more time on my hands I would doubtless like to re-paint as many of his pictures as possible.
Trying to recreate a painting like this is never going to be easy, the best we can do is study the original painting, make colour sketches and try to inject a little of our own expression as well.
This painting presented a big challenge to me just because Van Gogh’s style of painting is so distinctive, I am not going to say I got it right (there are bits I’d love to try again) but; I recommend every artist to try to do this – because his way of painting is a joy to work with. Thick heavy brush strokes & loads of paint.. whats not to enjoy?!
I think the real beauty of art is in the enjoyment of learning something new in each painting.
Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well.
